bored with your hair?

..then simply try a different era!

I put in some rollers to get evening curly hair, for the wedding do of my lovely newly-wed mates, but i needed to cover the rollers - so, what 'do' did i do for the morning ceremony?

A 50's style head-scarf and makeup combo!
Sadly, i wasn't able to appear in black & white all day

This lady is AMAZING at this kind of thing: http://www.lisafremontpages.blogspot.com/

dear little deer

at some point i'll upload a picture or two of my odditorium (odditorium:A collection of curiosities), but here are a couple of beauties i got in a charity shop, sat atop a lovely plate and silk scarf which i added to a couple of my other collections (plates and scarves, naturally)..
They're probably meant as Christmas decorations, but they look great next to my mushroom money box and large blue gnome!

wish you were here..

I'm always picking up old post cards, they're a lovely thing to have for inspiration;  I especially like the ones with the hand-tinted photos, and even better if they've actually been sent and have someone's message on the back.
I made some greetings cards using a few from my collection, but instead of cutting and sticking them I made some corner incisions in some blank cards and slid the postcard in so that it could be kept, framed or re-used by the recipient. To finish it off i sewed a little silk bow on to the corner of the card.

CAKE!

This is some yummy buns I made with my mum the last time I was at home. I got far too excited about icing for a woman of my age! Mum had to tell me to 'wise up'.
cake love

a first go at upholstery..

boring chairs + redundant fabric = PROJECT!

This is the 'before & after'
Having been bored by our 2 dining room chairs for some time and fancied having a go at upholstery i decided to cover the seat pads one lazy Sunday afternoon.
The fabric is from Ikea, but I got it for £1.49 in a charity shop, the chairs themselves were originally from a junk shop.

I popped out one of the pads from the chair frame and used it to measure how much i'd need.
Then I used a flat-head screwdriver to 'jimmy' out the old tacks and removed the worn, brown chenille-type stuff from the seat-pad.
Next I  stretched the new fabric over the original cushioning and hammered in the original tacks to hold it in place.
Ahh, crafting with 'man tools' - most satisfying.

The finished article.

fabulous finds

so, here's a recent car boot haul - the storage jars are Hornsea pottery's Heirloom range which I LOVE, in fact the biscuit jar is so nice it actually inspired me to bake some biscuits! Well, any excuse for a sugar fix...

The books I bought for the covers - i have this new thing where I like to frame book covers, so i'm always on the look out for cool, funny and unusual ones.

I plan to 'do something' with the broken watch pieces, so watch this space!

Mollie Makes magazine

I don't know about you, but I usually need something to fire me up to making or creating - the ideas are all in there buzzing about, but just a flick through a magazine or a book  gets my fingers itching to stitch, stick and make and draw one or two of those notions out of my head.
So, after the mad scramble it was to try to get hold of the first issue (which eventually I managed!) of this lovely new craft magazine, i managed to advance order my second issue which only a few pages into i was already lusting after many of the featured items and was dying to get my needles n pins out!
I've signed up to a subscription now (there's a great opening offer for new subscribers), and am looking forward to my monthly fix of inspiration.
