a first go at upholstery..

boring chairs + redundant fabric = PROJECT!

This is the 'before & after'
Having been bored by our 2 dining room chairs for some time and fancied having a go at upholstery i decided to cover the seat pads one lazy Sunday afternoon.
The fabric is from Ikea, but I got it for £1.49 in a charity shop, the chairs themselves were originally from a junk shop.

I popped out one of the pads from the chair frame and used it to measure how much i'd need.
Then I used a flat-head screwdriver to 'jimmy' out the old tacks and removed the worn, brown chenille-type stuff from the seat-pad.
Next I  stretched the new fabric over the original cushioning and hammered in the original tacks to hold it in place.
Ahh, crafting with 'man tools' - most satisfying.

The finished article.
